Hello everybody , this is Steel Girls' podcast . This podcast was created for women , by women , to elevate women's voices . I hope everyone is having a great week . As you can tell by my voice a little bit raspy , I am still not feeling well . I think the last episode I recorded solo , I was hacking and coughing away . This week I tested positive for the flu , which is why you're hearing from me again later in the week than I had really would have wanted . But we pivot right . Nevertheless , we pivot .

Speaker 1

One thing I wanted to mention to all of you , and part of the reason why I wanted to record today , was to let you know like my thought process while I was becoming sick this week . So I think , as some of you know , like my , my thought process while I was becoming sick this week . So I think , as some of you know , I started a new job , um , and when you're starting a new role , like in any situation , you want to put your best foot forward , and this was one of those moments where I was like , oh my gosh , um , I'm sick and I'm trying to show them the best of me and that's not going to come out this week . So it was a definite pivot for me . But then there was also some thought behind the scenes . One , I want to be somebody who practices what they preach . I'm consistently telling people and I'm saying it to you guys here to be mindful , telling people and I'm saying it to you guys here to be mindful , give yourself grace , to allow yourself space when you're sick to listen to your body and to actually let your body heal and give yourself that space to heal . So , on that regard , and to be honest with you , like again , like I thought of all the times that I come onto this podcast and I sit here and preach to everybody that we need to take care of ourselves and I , um , you know , tapped out and said I'm not well , I'm going to have to be on and off today and I , you know , I had to take care of myself and rest in between calls . And , yes , I still worked um , because I didn't want to , you know , pull the rug out from anybody , um , but I was very , it was a light touch and I just did what I could for as long as I could , and then I would break Um .

Speaker 1

Sometimes you have to pivot in that regard . Sometimes you just have to do it that way , um , to be perfectly honest with you . The extra rest I got yesterday was very helpful and it was , um , it was something that I think is going to help me heal a little bit quicker , because today , while , yes , I got diagnosed with the flu , um , I I feel much better today and I think it was the rest , to be perfectly frank . So I wanted to share that with all of you . Again , I'll say it to you let's practice what you preach and let's make sure that you take care of yourself because you have to . No one else you know no one else is that . You take care of yourself because you have to . No one else you know no one else is going to take care of you better than you . You have to really be mindful of yourself . So that's number one .

Speaker 1

Number two I wanted to just give you a highlight for this week's upcoming episode . On Sunday , the 26th , we have Kimberly Grustas . She's going to be talking about navigating puberty and embracing natural skincare for your daughters and sons . We specifically reference daughters , but skincare is also for boys .

Speaker 1

The episode talks about the importance of obviously empowering young girls to make informed skincare choices during their transition to womanhood . She herself , kimberly . She founded this company called Good For you , girls , and it's natural skincare products for , um . You know your young daughters to start skincare routines . Um , it's important for it's important for them to be able to have , um , a good baseline , but we also don't want to be putting products on our children's faces that might cause irritants . And I'll be honest with you , there's a lot of products out there on the shelves that even that I've used and I'm thinking like , oh , this is great , it says natural or it says this , but the reality of it is there are a lot of ingredients in these products that are harmful and that can cause other issues . Young people in general , like they're going to be more prone to having a reaction to something because they're getting exposed to things for the first time , so I think it's really important to be able to be mindful about that . So we talk about importance of informed skincare choices , the necessity of reading labels and understanding ingredients , and then how puberty impacts young girls in addressing body image . So it's just making sure that we're very informed so that we can then pass along things to our kids .

Speaker 1

So that's going to be coming on Sunday . It's a very interesting episode Strong recommend , especially if you have young kids . I'm going to be really quick today with my episode , just because I am trying to make sure that I get this out to all of you . So tune in for Sunday and we'll continue on with the guest episodes and making sure that you have really good information being brought to you . I hope you all have a really , really wonderful day . Please make sure you're taking care of yourself . This year I know in New Jersey the flu virus , norovirus , rsv everything's really bad this year . So please take care of yourself , get those extra vitamins in your system , do what you can . I hope to have you all with me on Sunday . No-transcript .
